Skills to be acquired:

Knowledge: knowledge of the topologies, the principles of control and the technologies associated with power electronics; knowledge of the specific vocabulary of the discipline.

Know how: To be able to compute the internal and external electric quantities of power electronic converters (DC/DC, inverters, and rectifiers). To be able to determine the electrical and thermal stress of active and passive components used in power electronics.

To be able to establish and use a small signal dynamic model of a DC/DC converter. To be able to simulate the electrical behavior of a converter by using the state representation.

Being able of sizing the main elements of a DC/DC converter from a specification of needs. Be able of sizing filtering elements: inductances, transformers.

Topics:

Theory of electric circuits - Physics of semiconductors - Technique of regulation and control - Thermal – Magnetism.

Description

The course has for target to present the main structures of conversions used in power electronics and their applications with a particular focus on electrical drives and energy transmission. The course deals with the principles of energy conversion   by means of semiconductors devices and this independently of the power level. It is therefore not limited to electromechanical engineers. Power electronics cannot amount to the electrical and topological aspects, the following topics will thus be evoked: thermal; stress; electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and control.
