Firms are central actors in international trade. They decide whether to export their products, import inputs, open subsidiaries abroad or offshore some stages of production. Understanding their characteristics and decisions as well as the challenges they face is central to recent explanations of trade patterns, the consequences of trade for the labor market as well as to the evaluation of trade policies. This course will provide students with a deep understanding of the role of firms in international trade, based on the most recent developments in the academic literature and on practical work.
