Welcome to the Sociology of Markets and Organizations course platform!
This teaching unit presents and discusses the contributions of the
sociology of markets and organizations. These contributions are first outlined by presenting
the theoretical foundations of this sociological current (Marx, Weber, Durkheim,
Simmel). We will then connect this ‘classical sociology’ with contemporary work
in two steps. Firstly, one lecture will propose a historical synthesis of this
field throughout the 20th century. In a second step, students will
read and present a modern research paper (by groups), by linking it to a contemporary
socio-economic phenomenon. This course enables students to
adopt a reflexive perspective on organizations and markets.
