As the boundaries between the public and private sectors
collide, more active strategic management techniques have become popular
in many countries. Yet the expectations of citizens, service users,
other stakeholders, and political masters directing the administration
and execution of policies and public services can introduce constraints,
complexities, and challenges. In this course Belgium’s public
management reform trajectory and distinctive political landscape is
compared and contrasted against its neighbours and neoliberal Anglophone
countries, in order to critically question the future of public service
design and delivery. There will be opportunities to debate and
deconstruct actual management dilemmas through real cases.
