At the end of this course, students will be able to propose an appropriate synthetic pathway to get a polymer of given characteristics, and to select the proper techniques allowing them to characterize this polymer.
The course is made of a "chemistry" (A) and of a "physical chemistry" (B) part, that can be taken as separate courses:
- The chemistry part (delivered by Charles-André Fustin and Jean-François Gohy) consists of a self-learning system based on the analysis of scientific reviews
dealing with the main polymerization methods.
- The part on physical chemistry (delivered by Alain Jonas) is in flipped-classroom format and deals with concepts such as the size of macromolecules, the properties of dilute polymer solutions, and the main techniques of characterization of polymers in solution. The class time is used to solve problems.
