The course is focused on the study of the various biomass conversion routes for energy purposes. It is split into two parts taught by two professors specialised in each field. The first part deals with the thermo-chemical conversions: pyrolysis, combustion and gasification. This part focuses on wood conversion, but other feedstocks are also considered. The other part is devoted to the bio-chemical conversion routes: ethanologenic fermentation and methanogenic fermentation. The production of biodiesel from oily biomass is not addressed.
